Description & Distribution
Indian asafoetida enjoys an exalted position in the international market, being unique in blend and made with the finest ingredients.

Asafoetida or asafoetid (Devil's Drug) is the dried latex exuded from the living rhizome, root stock or taproot of an umbelliferous plant.

Asafoetida is scantily grown in India, especially in Kashmir. It is cultivated in Afghanistan and Iran. Imported into India in the crude form, Asafoetida is re-exported after processing. India produces mainly compounded asafoetida.

Asafoetida, medicinally stimulates the intestinal and respratory tracts and the nervous system. It is useful in preventive medicine for infectious diseases. It helps digestion, prevents flatulence and releases spasms and colic. It is extensively used in India for flavouring curries. In sauces & pickles, it acts as a preservative. Asafoetida oil has antibiotic properties and thus inhibits growth of microbes.
