Description & Distribution 
Pomegranate, believed to be a native of Iran, Afghanistan and Baluchistan, grows wild in the warm valleys and outer hills of the Himalayas. It is widely cultivated in tropical countries like. It is an ancient fruit symbolizing plenty and prosperity.

Pomegranate is the large, globose, shiny berry of a small tree. Inside the berry are hard, angular seeds, covered with a juicy, red, pink or yellowish - white, sweet, astringent acid pulps and these when sun dried and dehydrated constitutes the condiment.

For optimum flowering and good seed formation, pomegranate requires long hours of sunshine. The long hot Indian summers and the cool winters ensure abundant crop of pomegranate with unusually large berries and well formed seeds.

Pomegranate is cultivated throughout India particularly in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka.

Harvesting Season : October to November 
Marketing Season : December to January  



Uses
Pomegranate is used in a wide range of foods and beverages. It is endowed with excellent medicinal properties. It is often prescribed as a remedy for diarrhoea, dysentery, digestive disorders.
